Why I paint
Artist's Statement
“I love to paint for the pure pleasure of self expression—it's the gift that keeps giving. I paint places that feel remembered rather than seen—quiet spaces that seem to recognize us, to invite us in. My work explores the idea of “home” not as a fixed location, but as an emotional landscape shaped by memory, belonging, and imagination. Through a dramatic interplay of light and shadow, I create environments that suggest warmth, safety, and stillness, while leaving room for mystery and personal interpretation.”
Color and form become my language for evoking familiarity—spaces that might echo a place once known, or one deeply desired. Whether rooted in lived experience or quiet yearning, these scenes offer a moment of pause: an invitation to step inside, to linger, and to feel, if only briefly, at home.
From my loft studio on the banks of the Humber River, I'm is drawn to the rhythm between loose, expressive brushwork and carefully refined detail. My scenic artworks explore the interplay of soft atmospheric colour and bold intensity of shifting shapes and structure, revealing moments of wonder where form meets suggestion.
